Lab Director

Professor Dr. Theocharis D. Tsoutsos, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Lab Director, Director of the Graduate Programme "Environmental Engineering" (Apr 2014-), holds multilateral know-how and accumulated knowledge in the Renewable and Sustainable Energy field -with more than 25 years’ experience in the Greek RES market, and he demonstrates a fruitful academic progressive career with about 20 years’ educational experience. He has also taught in the Greek Graduate Courses of Kingston and Herriot Watt Universities, as well as in the Greek Open University.

He has participated in a significant number of RDD projects on RES and saving of energy (40+ as coordinator, 60+ as scientific collaborator and additionally 50+ as participating expert).

Dr Th.Tsoutsos is the author of about 70 scientific publications in scientific peer reviewed journals, 20+ participations in book authoring, 200+ publications in conferences in the area of RES policy and design of sustainable energy systems. He has 1,600+ citations in his scientific work; h-factor: 19 (Scopus): 21 (Google Scholar). He has supervised more than 100 Diploma Theses.

He is also assigned as:
  • Representative of CRES in the European Solar Industry Federation (1993- 2004); also in UNESCO  (Mediterranean Solar Council, 1997- 1999);
  • Scientific Coordinator of the European Solar Thermal Marketing Group (EC, 1992-1997), Permanent Committee of Energy of Pan-Hellenic Association of Chemical Engineers (2003 -2005), Vice Chairman of the Permanent Committee of Ecology and Environment of Technical  Chamber of Greece (2003-2005);
  • Vice Chair and National Representative of the European Network COST (Action TU0802) “Next generation cost effective phase change materials for increased energy efficiency in renewable energy systems in buildings” (NeCoE-PCM);
