The COMPOSE Methodological approach, developed by ReSEL TUC, and the 16 demonstration actions of positive energy, implemented during the COMPOSE MED Interreg project, were presented during the project meeting and a stakeholders workshop at Cyprus, March 2019
The 6th COMPOSE Consortium Meeting was hosted by Lacatamia Municipality, in Cyprus, on March 26-29th 2019; the three days included not only project works but also workshops and study visits at the Municipality of Lacatamia and University of Cyprus.
ReSEL TUC, leader of the Work Package for Testing, actively participated, disseminating the COMPOSE project activities and results. The presentation titled “Local Communities towards Positive Energy. The COMPOSE model application for local RES planning and green partnerships” was focused on the basic steps of the COMPOSE Common Methodology for Development (CCMD) application for RES and EE planning. The scope and main outputs of the 15 COMPOSE pilot actions, implemented in 11 MED regions were also presented. The three Greek pilot actions were presented, as case studies for the on-field application and testing of the CCMD i.e. a replicable methodology for the assessment of social, economic and environmental impacts from the use of wood biomass, applied in the Municipality of Anogeia, a fully operational smart UCO collection system employing smart sensors and a web-based monitoring platform deployed in the Municipality of Rethymno and a campaign aimed to foster social acceptance and local investments of small scale RES through an innovative methodological approach using GIS and multi-criteria analysis and a Web tool to identify and present optimum areas for RES applications .
The event created a forum for the exchange of ideas, research results and experiences related to the implementation of energy efficiency horizontal principles and RES measures and their integration in local energy strategies. Attendees from municipal departments showed keen interest in the COMPOSE methodology and its step by step on-field application in pilot actions. Results of the COMPOSE pilot actions peeked their interest, showcasing the environmental and socio-economic benefits, through the implementation of an integrated energy planning methodology in different Mediterranean local communities.
