ReSEL @ “Clean Energy for EU Islands”, Athens, April 2019

The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Laboratory was invited as speaker, at the workshop “Clean Energy for EU Islands”, working for the advancement of the clean energy transition of the Greek islands, on the 5th of April in Athens.

The focus of the workshop, which was organized by the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat, was the active involvement of local authorities, local businesses, citizens’ initiatives, as well as educational institutions and academia.

ReSEL was represented by its director, Professor Theocharis Tsoutsos and Senior Expert Stavroula Tournaki, who shared their experience and best practices on the involvement of citizens in sustainable energy and sustainable mobility, from the European initiatives REScoop Plus and CIVITAS DESTINATIONS.

More than 60 participants and experts from different Greek islands, the Regulatory Authority for Energy, the Hellenic Distribution Network Operator, the Independent Power Transmission Operator, the executive structure of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy were present. During the afternoon roundtable discussion, participants expressed their commitment to work towards the energy transition at the local context, learning from each other and building on the existing experiences and addressing both the technical and the important social aspects.
